Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 5:30 PM we held a musical look at the history of polka for adults and families with children.

Mike Schneider of Pint Size Polkas, aka “Uncle Mike,” covered the history of the accordion and polka music and introduced us to the three main polka styles during this anything-but-boring presentation.

We learned and practiced the steps to the “Chicken Dance,” took part in an interactive video quiz on the German, Polish, and Slovenian styles of polka music, danced the polka together, and enjoyed the sounds of famous polka songs. At the end Mike played polkas by request.

There was an enthusiastic crowd and I think we all had fun!

This is the second of Three Third Thursdays with a Musical Theme at the library this fall. This program is supported by a grant from OmniArts and funds from the Friends of the Oglesby Library.
